FAQ about our Mentoring Program...

Today I want to run through some FAQ just in case you are not quite sure if this program is right for you!

What experience/ qualifications do I need to have to join PPPM?

PPPM is set up for Physios who are looking to further their skills in Pregnancy and/or Pelvic Health. As a minimum mentees should have completed some formal training (or working towards this) in this area such as APA Level 1 Introductory to Pregnancy and Pelvic Health or equivalent course. Mentees will be grouped based on their experience.

To be mentored on internal examinations, mentees will need to have completed a face to face course where this skill was assessed such as Post Grad Certificate in Pelvic Health.

(If you do not fit this criteria but are still interested in the program please contact us to discuss your individual situation).

How much time do I need to invest in this program?

The program is designed for business health professionals who are time poor. The program will require a minimum of 1 hour per week but if you have the time you can spend up to 3-4 hours per week reading resources on the portal.

What if I am just interested in working in Pregnancy and not Pelvic Floor Health?

That is not a problem at all. Mentees will be grouped based on their experience and clinical practice areas and training and resources are relevant to this caseload as well.

Do you know of any funding I can get to help support me during this program?

If you are working in rural/remote Australia (any state) there are grants that are available. We strongly recommend you investigate grants via the following website https://www.hwsp.com.au/

Also check your local council website as many local government grants exist to promote and establish healthcare businesses.

How much of an investment is the program?

The investment is $500 (plus GST) per month. In most private clinics this equates to the value of gaining one new patient per week. In a hospital setting, this is significantly less than hiring a part time senior Physio (if that is even possible!) to support you.

Is there an end to this program?

As lifelong learners, we understand Rome wasn’t built in a day. Mentees are able to opt out at any point however the program and as you become more equipped the program can be flexed to a more advanced level of experience in this area.

How much experience do the mentors have?

All our mentors have completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor and Continence at Melbourne University - at a minimum. Most also tutor on this course and other University physio programs in Pregnancy and Pelvic Health. All mentors have had a minimum of 10 years experience working in the area of Pregnancy and Pelvic Health in a variety of sectors. Your mentor will be matched to your level of experience and place of work.

I work in a hospital and have questions about inpatient management. Is this program still worthwhile for me?

Absolutely! PPPM creators Karina and Bec have a combined 30 years experience working in acute hospital maternity wards and outpatient departments. Bec and Karina understand first hand that to run an efficient and effective maternity ward requires a specific skill set often not taught in any Pelvic Health courses. In both the inpatient and outpatient setting there are often the additional challenges related to hospital policies and procedures and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

At PPPM we can guide you through prioritising and streamlining your workload and take you through the process of navigating hospital protocols, applying for grants/funding to enhance your service, and assist you to develop your pelvic health physio skills!

I hope we have answered all your burning questions. If we haven’t please feel free to contact us via the website
